Hiawatha Elementary School strives to have every student learn and succeed in a student-centered, technology-rich learning environment that fosters teacher-student reflection and creates student awareness on the importance of becoming a global citizen. Each student at Hiawatha is issued an iPad that they take home during the school year and in some cases over the summer. Each staff member is issued an iPad, a MacBook, and has access to Apple TV.
Having one-to-one technology has transformed the way student learning looks, sounds, and feels at Hiawatha. Apple and third-party apps and the integration of both play key roles in students’ daily lives. Reading and math apps are used to differentiate learning, and Apple apps such as Camera, Photos, iMovie, and Keynote allow students to create and critically think about content to demonstrate their learning. With Apple technology, students connect to people around the world, such as with other classrooms for #GlobalReadAloud and with authors and other professional experts. Students in all grades use digital portfolios to share with others outside of the classroom and demonstrate growth.
